Gordon first started racing in 1998 towards the end of the season at the age of 17 after watching his Father James Moodie compete at the highest level for as long as he could remember. After years of harassment James eventually gave in and let Gordon have a go…………… who knew what would follow next! Having had no previous racing experience, he advanced from a novice to the highest superstar grade within the blink of an eye. Gordon has retained this grading ever since but it hasn’t been an easy accomplishment with many hours not to mention blood, sweat and tears being put into getting to the top and staying there.
Being based in Scotland, and only having two tracks within the country, there have been countless hundreds of crossings over the border to England and over water to Northern Ireland and Holland – always followed by a legion of fans and his trusty race team.
Gradually as Gordon’s race experience and expertise grew so followed major titles. The first major title Gordon won was the Scottish Championship in 2003 and then superseded this by being the first driver to ever retain it for two years in a row. Since this Gordon has held every single major title to be won, even venturing into Rebel racing and winning their British Championship.
The tireless travelling was repaid in 2005 on scoring the highest number of points in one season; a title Gordon still holds resulting in him being the National Points Champion and having the honour of holding the Silver roof for 5 years in a row.
One of most fan’s lasting memories to date will be Gordon’s spectacular World Final Championship win at Mildenhall in England on shale in 2006. Gordon suitably kept fans on tender hooks until the last bend to execute a race winning move and take the chequered flag.
2007 proved to be equally successful in winning more major titles with a change in racing number from #79 to #7 to honour his dad's racing number with the gold and silver roof. The year included being the first UK driver to win the Dutch World Cup, winning the British Championship; the only remaining major UK title not previously won by Gordon, and even winning the Rebel Racers British Championships!
2008 started with racing Florida Modified series at New Smyrna Speedway in Florida, USA and some respectable race results. The UK season saw a challenge on the National Points championship which pushed the race for the points to the edge and the car too with a change less than half way through the season. Trips across the water both east and west saw success in winning the Irish Open and retaining the Dutch World Cup. September saw the pole position at the World Final take Gordon all the way to first over the finish line, and the seemingly wrongs of previous years corrected.....this wasn't to stay this way however and subsequent politics which can't be commented on due to BRISCA sanctions on drivers speaking out saw the title of World Champion witheld and a ban from driving until July 2009 imposed - enough said about that though!
So, here is to July 2009........see you at the racing!
